Duh! I'm just a homeowner and admit that I know little about construction. I was researching contractors to find someone to build my deck. Several quoted me the job by "top screwing", but a couple also mentioned the hidden deck fasteners. After reading this article, I am definitely going that route. It makes perfect sense that hidden deck fasteners will hold longer and better. Thanks for the info before I made the wrong choice.

I called Ipe Clip to ask a few more questions. I was installing a composite deck and the manufacturer recommended a 1/4" gap space. Ipe Clip has an Extreme KD clip which worked well. My deck is now underway and looks great. Thanks for the help Dan!

Very interesting write up on how hidden deck fasteners are stronger than face screwing. Makes some good valid points.

Good question Donnie, one that many people ask us about.

We manufacture fasteners that not only work with hardwood decking, but also for composite and PVC materials as well. Composite and PVC decking has grown the past few years with more and more choices available now. So if you can not figure which fastener you need simply by our website, please feel free to give us a call and we can help you with that as well.

Thanks for the info. Quick question though. You say the hidden deck fastener is a better choice. Can this fastener be used on composite decking or only on hardwoods?
